I was born in Kentucky and raised in the Yap Islands in the Federated States of Micronesia. My father is Micronesian (specifically, Ulithian from Ulithi Atoll) and my mother is American (from Kentucky). I have two brothers and one sister. I graduated with my high school diploma in 2002 from the Yap Seventh-day Adventist School in Yap and moved to Hawaii to attend college. After receiving scholarships and grants, I was able to attend Chaminade University and graduate with my BS in Criminal Justice concentrating in Pre-law in 2006.
After graduation, I began working at Chaminade University as a full-time employee in the Records Office. While working, I was also taking graduate courses and received my MS in Criminal Justice Administration in 2008. Then in 2009, I began law school at the UH- Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law. I was fortunate enough to be named the Patsy T. Mink Fellow for the year 2010 and got a chance to work in Senator Akaka's office in Washington, D.C., in the summer of 2010
