Inside Honolulu reports:

Friday (Aug. 31) is the deadline to file to run in the special election (to be held the same day as the general, Nov. 6) to fill Tulsi Gabbard’s vacated seat on the Honolulu City Council.

As of late Friday (Aug. 24), nine candidates have filed their papers, including former Council Chair Jon Yoshimura.

The field includes several perennial electoral also-rans like Jim Brewer, Inam Rahman and Kaui Amsterdam as well as Arvid Youngquist, a persistent presence at Council and Hawaii Legislature hearings.
