Hawaiian Airlines says it is suspending scheduled service between Honolulu and New York City for Sunday and Monday due to the hurricane and bad weather. The airlines says it is doing so at the request of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

But the airlines plans to add an additional round trip to New York City that will depart Honolulu on Tuesday afternoon, once the storm clears.

Affected passengers will be booked on this flight or Hawaiian’s other regularly scheduled flights between Honolulu and New York-JFK, and are advised to call Hawaiian’s reservations at to confirm flight details, according to a press release. Change fees have been waived.

Regularly scheduled service should resume on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the press release, neighbor island residents making connections to today’s flight are being re-booked on flights back home today, and returned to Honolulu when the JFK flights resume at no additional cost. In addition, Hawaiian is working with Ohana Hotels to offer discounted accommodations on O’ahu for passengers connecting to one of the grounded flights from other Hawaiian Airlines destinations.
