Statement from Betsy Lin, campaign manager for Mazie Hirono’s U.S. Senate campaign, in response to Alaska Republican Congressman Don Young endorsing Republican Linda Lingle:
“Republican Linda Lingle should be proud to have the support of national Republicans in their quest to take control of the U.S. Senate – it’s impressive that 26 Republican U.S. Senators have publicly backed her. What the people of Hawaii continue to be confused by is how this in any way demonstrates that she would be a bipartisan or independent member in the U.S. Senate.”
In case you missed it, Lingle said she was honored to have Young’s endorsement, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. However, it is worth pointing out, as the Star-Advertiser noted,that when Congressman Young (R-AK) endorsed Congresswoman Hirono (D-HI) during the Hawaii’s Democratic U.S. Senate Primary, Lingle Campaign Manager Bob Lee had this to say about the Republican Congressman from Alaska:
“It should be troubling to the people of Hawaii that Mazie Hirono’s first attempt to convey any example of bipartisanship is a video advertisement with one of the House of Representative’s most controversial members, who even Mazie’s fellow Democrats have criticized on a range of ethics and spending issues. This is not the leadership Hawaii needs.” …
