A 58-year-old man was bitten by a shark this morning off Kanaapali Beach on Maui, prompting the beach’s closure for a mile in both directions from where the bite took place.
The attack was reported around 8:30 a.m. in the waters fronting 110 Kaanapali Shores Place, county officials said. Surfers were evacuated from the water and the beach closed. Fire crews said the victim’s wound was a 6-inch bite outline of the shark’s mouth on the victim’s thigh.
The victim was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
American and Chinese military representatives met at Pearl Harbor this week for two days of talks designed to “reduce the likelihood of incidents at sea and in the air,” the Pacific Fleet announced Wednesday.
