The National Hurricane Center says Gil is now a tropical storm in the Eastern Pacific, but it is not yet a threat to Hawaii.
Forecasters say the storm is 815 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph. Gil is moving west-northwest at at 15 mph. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles from the center.
