<p>An earlier version of this column said Rep. Brower took his sledgehammer "to shopping carts full of homeless belongings." Brower says he "never destroyed any homeless person's belongings" or took them away. "I have previously 'returned to the owner,' 'smashed and recycled' and 'removed broken' stolen, abandoned, empty, shopping carts from sidewalks and parks," he said in an email to me Monday.
