Lingle Vetoes 32 Bills on Final Day

Gov. Linda Lingle had until Tuesday to veto bills passed by the Hawaii Legislature during the 2010 term. She rejected 32 bills on the final day.

Of the 39 she told lawmakers last month she might veto — giving them an opportunity to convene a special session to override her vetoes — 35 went down. The Hawaii Senate convened briefly Tuesday, with senators saying they stood by their work and were ready to vote on overrides. But the House of Representatives, also controlled by Democrats, did not convene. The speaker said Friday that no bills were important enough to warrant coming back.
