Gov Cuts Funding for Special Ed Supplies In Budget Request
12/06/2011Gov. Neil Abercrombie is asking the Hawaii Legislature for millions of dollars less for education spending next year than the Department of Education wants. In fact, the governor's spending plan is $23 million lower than the department's.
The Hawaii State Board of Education on Tuesday received the governor's budget request for 2013.
The governor is lower in three key areas:
- Transportation, where he wants $17 million less
- Special education, $3.3 million less for supplies
- School meals, $3 million less
