Gov Cuts Funding for Special Ed Supplies In Budget Request
Gov. Neil Abercrombie is asking the Hawaii Legislature for millions of dollars less for education spending next year than the Department of Education wants. In fact, the governor's spending plan is $23 million lower than the department's.
The Hawaii State Board of Education on Tuesday received the governor's budget request for 2013.
The governor is lower in three key areas:
- Transportation, where he wants $17 million less
- Special education, $3.3 million less for supplies
- School meals, $3 million less
