Hawaii Congressional District Elections

Hawaii has two congressional districts, the 1st and the 2nd.

1st Congressional District Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, 60, a former Hawaii state Senate president, won her congressional seat in November 2010. Democratic Hanabusa defeated incumbent Charles Djou, a Republican, 50-44 percent. She announced in August 2011 that she will run for re-election in 2012, and Djou announced he will run against her.

Djou, 41, had won the seat in a special election that was held on May 22, 2010. He was elected to complete the term of Neil Abercrombie, a Democrat who resigned to run for governor.

2nd Congressional District Rep. Mazie Hirono, 63, has represented the district since Jan. 3, 2007. She is in her third term in Congress and easily won re-election in 2010, but announced she is vacating her seat in 2012 in a bid for the U.S. Senate.
