Education Accountability

Accountability is at the heart of nearly every public education controversy in Hawaii. Elected officials, administrators and unions often seem to try to pin on one another the blame for poor school and student performance in the state's centralized K-12 system. The tightening state budget has brought matters to a head as these key players joust with one another for authority over the department of education's funds and policies.
