Hawaii State Teachers Association

The Hawaii State Teachers Association is the state chapter for the National Education Association. The union advocates on behalf of teachers and negotiates contracts with the Hawaii State Board of Education on behalf of its 13,000 members. It was established in 1971 as Hawaii teachers' official organized representation and claims among its notable accomplishments the development of the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board. The standards board establishes licensing requirements for Hawaii's public school teachers.
