Larry Fenton ran to represent the neighborhoods of Makiki, Ala Moana and McCully in District 11 for the Hawaii State Senate in the 2012 general election. He was crushed by Democrat Brian Taniguchi, who received 74 percent of the vote compared to Fenton's 18 percent. Fenton was unopposed in the primary election.
He was one of the ten candidates in the nonpartisan Honolulu City Council 2010 race for District 6. District 6 at the time covered a portion of Makiki, Downtown Honolulu, Punchbowl, Liliha, Pauoa Valley, Nuuanu, Alewa Heights, Papakolea, Kalihi Valley and some of Kalihi. He finished 8th in the primary election that year. Tulsi Gabbard and Sesnita Moepono advanced to the general election which Gabbard won.
